“I’m My Generation’s Tupac” Says Boosie BadAzz

Though he has been dead for over 20 years it seems Tupac’s influence over hip hop is still alive and well. People often compare themselves or strive to be like the deceased rapper but the fact is there was only one Tupac. Not long ago Troy Ave claimed that he’s feels he’s the Tupac of today. Boosie BadAzz seems to also have the same thoughts as Troy because he recently told DJ Vlad that “I’m my generation’s Tupac” in an interview on VladTV.

Taking this further Boosie announced that he’s releasing a double disc album soon which will be titled “BooPac”. Needless to say it’s a bold claim for him to make, even though I personally can see what he means when he refers to himself as a modern day Tupac. In the current rap music landscape Boosie raps about atypical subjects such as incarceration and discouraging trapping, black on black crime and other sensitive subjects much in the spirit of some of Pac’s songs. In short Boosie said that his music will touch people in much the say way that Pac’s did.

The album will feature 26 songs in total and Boosie claims that there will be no filler material or songs that you have to fast forward. He stated that it’s an album which you should be able to listen to from start to end.

While I’m happy to hear that Boosie is releasing new music I personally don’t like the Pac references and the BooPac album title simply because it attaches preconceived ideas to the project. Hence in some sense it restricts the listener from opening their mind to interpret the music in the way they wish to. Chances are many people will be trying to listen to the music in hopes of picking out Pac-like moments instead of listening to the album for what it is. In short I want Boosie to be Boosie and not compare himself to other rappers, because he is indeed unlike other rappers past and present.

With that being said chance are he will make some touching music as he has done in the past, and this is one album that I’m actually looking forward to listening to once it drops. You can watch the full VladTV interview below.
